Intellectual property rights, such as patents or copyrights, are becoming strict in these few years. For example, You Tube, which is one of the biggest online video sharing website, is facing some problems with these property rights. They once had no choice but to remove the sound from some movies or video clips to keep them online due to the claims from the proprietors. Google Book, an online service for reading books, is also suffering from earning permissions from the publishers. Since our lives are fully relying on the Internet, it seems to be unable to remove the videos or other contents from the web that are against to the rights of the owners, and which means, of course, that uploading videos on the web would be inevitable. Therefore, discussions for property rights are recently being carried out.

Critically discuss the issue raised above. How do you think intellectual property rights can affect the reactions or practices of the online users? Why are they necessary? How should they be formalized to create a good deal for both the users and the proprietors? How intellectual property rights can be improved or transformed in the future for using the Internet as an entertainment and a convenient resource for gathering information?
